March 12th meeting
Invite: Wednesday – 03/12/2025 – VENTURA – Indivisible Ventura Meeting (2:00 pm) Topper’s Pizza, 3940 E. Main St., Ventura
This month, there will be a presentation on the Community Autonomy, Rights, and Equality (CARE) Policy, which will be heard at the Ventura City Council on Tuesday, March 18th. This is an important issue, and Oxnard, Simi, TO, and Santa Barbara will all be watching to see how it plays out.
Though the current council has a majority of members who were endorsed by local Democratic Clubs, and this issue clearly expresses democratic values, we have learned our lesson from the failure of the Medicare-for-All resolution in January of 2024. Therefore, we will also discuss prepping the ground to make sure that our Democrat-endorsed councilmembers understand our expectations through the use of pre-meeting and meeting tactics.
Other discussion items:
- We will touch on the internet blowing up about Trump’s promise to invoke the Insurrection Act 90 days after his Inauguration. This is the most instructive primer on the issue we’ve found. (https://www.americanprogress.org/article/domestic-deployment-of-the-military-the-past-present-and-potential-future/)
- What is the next big 50501 action? A local leader will talk about it and ask for volunteers.
- Local Sierra Club leader Jim Hines wrote a letter that became part of both our last newsletter and and an online action: (https://indivisibleventura.org/2025/03/09/americas-crown-jewels-arent-locked-in-a-tower-part-1/)
