Bears Ears – 3/19 – LAST day to comment!

Stop destruction of Bears Ears  and Grand Staircase/Escalante.

Comments due TODAY – March 19th!

On Feb. 2nd, companies began staking mining claims on land tracts removed from Uth’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. They will get the opportunity to permanently despoil some of the most beautiful land in the country for literally a few dollars an acre.

In addition, a rider in the new appropriations bill, Sec. 433 of HR 3354, blocks the EPA from implementing, enforcing or finalizing requirements that hard rock mining sites carry insurance to cover environmental damage. This provision will likely leave cleanup costs to the taxpayers under Superfund instead of making the responsible party pay for the damage they caused. Destruction, pollution, AND corruption! Hallmarks of this administration.

This New York Times map of what Bears Ears National Monument looks like now, and what it will look like if the the administation’s proposal to shrink its boundaries goes through, is staggering. Public comments on protecting Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments are both due on Monday March 19th.

Use this link from the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance for talking points and to access a portal to send comments to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), one each for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase.

Write as many comments as you can today! Ask your friends to write something during their lunch hours.

This map revision makes a whole lot more sense when you see the new BLM propaganda piece they call a “vision” card. Yep. That’s their vision right there, printed on plastic at our expense.

  1. Bring back regulations that protect our parks and memorials! Put back the boundaries and regs! Don’t destroy all we hold dear and makes America proud and beautiful! PROTECT! #NoMining

  2. These National Parks and Monuments are avlegacy for our children, grandchildren and beyond. Many international tourists visit every year enriching our economy. Please do not be short sighted and doing the bidding of Big Oil and Big Ag. Preserve this treasure for generations to come.
